Kuala Lumpur Zine Fest 2015 report and pix

Kuala Lumpur Zine Fest and Distro Day Out 2015 was held at Findars Art Gallery in the heart of Kuala Lumpur on 19 December 2015 and started around 12 pm.

About 15 zine editors and publishers took part; Comicore Club, Cukong Press, Sky, Ltlstvnch, Pustakata, Geng Gelabah, Legasi Oakheart, Zine Satu Malam, Mosh, Repulsive regurgitate, Altar and others. Other vendors were selling books, tapes and compact discs and other souvenirs such as button badges and keychains.

Some new zines were launched on that day; Futuhat, Psychotic Art zine issue 21, Oh Jeng! and Distopia trial issue.

The event was enlivened with music and poetry performances by Mimpi Rusak, Man Dugong dan Bangsi Hikmat, Le'Lagoo, Riz Morales and Chow Kit Kids. Video and documentary films were also screened at around 2pm. Among the videos are about the zine scene in United States, Zine Fest in Bandung, Indonesia and Kuala Lumpur Zine Fest and Distro Day Fest 2012.

In the afternoon session, a forum was held that includes six panels who are active and productive in the zine scene. The panels were Bob (Gedegang comic zine!) Zaki (A Dream? zine), Shaznihanis (Comicore Club), Talib (Altar! zine), Nizang (Mosh zine). The discussion was about the local zine scene and it was moderated by a zine enthusiast, Khasteena.

About 400 visitors were present at the Kuala Lumpur zine fest and Distro Day this year around. Thanks to Ieda Mazlan and Sarajevo Amira Maisara who worked hard to make the KL Zine fest and Distro Day Out this time happened.
